Meet Kyle Kerchaert, the Social Team Lead at GlossGenius. Learn all about Kyle's role at the company, her professional journey, and more!

Can You Tell Us About Your Role at GlossGenius?
I lead the social team here at GlossGenius. What I do changes so much from day to day (and honestly, hour to hour.) I write social posts, film & edit short-form videos, review all of our influencer & UGC content from customers, and help curate our brand experience for customers or anyone interacting with us through our social media. My role’s sort of like product marketing, brand marketing, influencer marketing, creative production, and customer support wrapped up in one. I’m super fortunate to have an amazing team that makes this all possible!
How Have You Grown Professionally and What Skills Have You Sharpened Since Joining the GG Team?
I feel like I learned more in my first year at GlossGenius than in my five years at my previous company. I’m on year three, and the learning hasn’t slowed down. I joined GlossGenius with zero traditional marketing experience, so undoubtedly the biggest skill I’ve unlocked is how to translate my understanding of great social content into something that works for a customer, a brand, and a business all at once. Social sits between so many areas of the company, so my role has also grown my cross-functional collaboration skills. I feel way more confident in how to rally multiple stakeholders behind a decision or identify how to use my expertise to unlock wins for other teams.

Could You Share an Example of a Social Media Campaign that Truly Exceeded Your Expectations, and What Do You Think Made It so Successful?
I’m proud of how we celebrate Pride Month each year on Instagram with our community. This year, we ran a mini “All Are Welcome” content campaign on Instagram. We shared bite-sized education on how customers can use GlossGenius to create an inclusive business and profiled LGBTQIA+-owned businesses from our community that prioritize this at the core of their operations.
The biggest hit of the campaign was our “All Are Welcome” shareables post, which our audience shares to their Stories or reposts on their grids to communicate to clients that they’re an inclusive space. This post is our 4th most-viewed post of all time. I think it resonates with our audience because it centers client care, which is the core of our customers’ businesses. It helps our customers communicate something vital about their business and client experience in a clear, visible way. The most important thing to me is creating an environment that leads with care and support, whether that’s in my personal life or online. It’s extremely special to me that our community shares this value.
What's Your Favorite Part About Interacting with the GlossGenius Community on Social Media?
Our community is so vocal and so involved. It’s a social media manager’s dream. My favorite part is being able to create a little moment of joy in someone’s day through social. I always take time in my day to leave supportive comments on content they post. I also keep my eye on our customers’ socials and note opportunities to send them something to recognize when the big things that happen in their lives, whether that be a career milestone, a personal celebration, or a time where they just need a little extra support.
Why Did You Join GlossGenius in the First Place?
The people! When I was going through my interview process, I could tell that the people here were special. I felt they cared about seeing me as a unique individual and understanding how I would fit into the team dynamic. I could also tell how much everyone here cared about doing the best work so that they could make our customers’ lives better. This level of dedication made me feel confident GlossGenius would care about nurturing my career, too. It was such a green flag to be treated like that in an interview process, and it quickly became obvious how much that feeling was missing from my experience with other companies.
If You Could Give One Piece of Advice to Someone Looking to Build a Career in Social Media, What Would it Be?
Stop trying to do what everyone else is doing, and trust your unique point of view. The weird idea you have is the one that is likely the most valuable, because it’s new. And stay curious! I have folders on every platform where I save inspo as I encounter it, even during post-midnight scrolls. This means I start every week with a fresh set of ideas that I can Frankenstein into new content, so our social calendar never feels stale.
What’s Something About You that Your Coworkers Might Be Surprised to Learn?
It’s not a surprise to them that I’m a day-one Swiftie, but they probably don’t know that before GlossGenius, I used to produce YouTube video explainers decoding the easter eggs in Taylor’s music videos. I’d pull all-nighters on release nights with one of my Swiftie co-workers who’s also a close friend, and we’d publish the videos the next day. Our most popular one has over 6 million views. It was absolutely exhausting and absolutely the best time (but I’m definitely looking forward to having her next album release night to myself!).
GlossGenius is actively hiring across many departments – check out our open roles here.
